Bring It: P90X Day 2
76This is a continuation in my journey with the P90X system. By the end of the 90 days, I hope to show people whether this system is worth the extra punch or just another advertising gimmick. If you would like to start from the beginning of this series, please click here.
Feel free to comment on your journeys to get healthy below. Maybe together, we can kick this unhealthy epidemic in the past!
Welcome to My Journey
Nothing to do with P90X - But I find it inspirational
Bring It!!
I woke up this morning.
I got out of bed this morning.
What can I say, that in itself was a bonus! As in my whole upper body was feeling like a dead weight. I now knew what my arms were (not that I didn't know what they were before), but for the first time in a long time, I could actually feel their presence. I knew today was going to be hard, but I also knew my arms would be left out of this work out for the most part. Yesterday's workout, Chest & Back was a killer. While my arms might thank me in 90 days, they are not thanking me today!
But, even though I woke up about as far from motivation as a person could be, I knew yesterday that I made a commitment. The problem was this commitment was made online, and with only one day behind me, I could fall off the train just yet. So, before the kids even head out for school, and before my toddler even woke up from bed, I got into my workout clothes and pushed play. Plyometrics was waiting for me whether I wanted it or not!
What is Plyometrics?
When it comes to extreme, this is probably the most extreme workout in the entire P90X system. The good news is, if you can get through Day 2, you know the rest of the week should be a piece of cake (or maybe a walk in the park... since we are talking being healthy here we should probably refrain from using junk food as a reference!) However, the bad news is, you have to be able to make it through Day 2 without keeling over dead.
Obviously, I made it. I am still here able to write this. So it is possible to survive!
As I said before, this is the most extreme cardio workout in the P90X system. In fact, I downright love to hate this. Don't get me wrong, it feels good afterwards, and when my legs are nice and chiseled, this mornings workout will be merely a faint memory. Yet, with over 30 explosive jumping moves, your legs will feel as if someone has ran over them several times with a car.
With moves like jump squats, jumping knee tucks, lunges, leapfrog jumps, the only time you spend on the ground is when you are pushing back off to get into the air. Painful - yes!
However, if you can make it through the pain, this workout proves to be very beneficial, especially for the sports minded. In fact, most of these exercises are included in training programs for athletes that play football, basketball, soccer, baseball and such. This training will increase your endurance, help you run faster, and make you jump higher.
So time to get too it...
Get the gear!
Day 2
Before even starting the DVD, I got a text message from a friend, asking me if I would like to go for a walk today. We are going to start a buddy program to get in shape. However, I still want to do my P90X. I just hoped that after my Plyometrics, I would still be able to go on this walk.
So I pushed play.
Like I said earlier, motivation and me were not friends today. So, pushing play was a difficult decision. However, I thought the second I started, I would feel alright. Usually that is the case. Once I get there, I am on a roll. Not today.
I pushed play, and before the warm-up was over, I was already wanting to call it quits. And this was only the warm-up. The jumping was yet to start... I had only started with basic squats and lunges. Yep, it was going to be a long hour of me watching the ticker count down to zero.
Normally, I find Tony Horton somewhat hilarious and motivating. Today, I was not in the mood and wanted to punch him through my TV screen. I needed to force that anger and frustration in to my workout. Eventually, as the torture wore on, I found myself starting to enjoy myself. I started feeling good. I was ready to go! It only took about 28 minutes.
So I jumped and squated and my legs burned. They burned like crazy. But I envisioned them become chiseled and muscular. I envisioned in 90 days myself laughing at this workout. But today it was difficult. And I will admit that I might have lowered the impact on a lot of the exercises, but at least I made it through.
Immediately afterwards, I went for a 30 minute walk!

Have you tried P90X?
See results without votingFeeling pretty good
The day isn't over yet, and I am sure that later I will be complaining about my inability to get up from a sitting position. As of right now, I am feeling pretty darn good.
Sure, my legs are a little sore, but I haven't sat down much yet, other than to write this. So far, I feel full of energy! I feel like I can jump tall buildings in one leap. And I have a pep to my step that I didn't feel a few days earlier.
If there is one thing for certain, even if P90X does not assist me in dropping a pound, I do know that physically I feel better each and every day. I know I have given it my all and in the end, that is what matters. In such a short time, I can already see minor results. If the effects are already happeneing this quickly, I can't wait to see what happens after the first month.
Note: P90X is and extreme workout program. It is always suggested that you consult your physician before you begin this or any other workout program. Always do at your own risk and if something starts to hurt, stop. Remember, it is better to keep moving then it is to become injured and not be able to work out at all.
If you to are on your very own personal health journey, I would love to hear your comments below. If not, I am greatful for any push and support you can lend my way. Every bit helps in my motivation!
Keep on going...

YAY!! You made it through day 2... does that mean I have to get off the couch now? Gosh I barely got my workout in yesterday! You are going to end up beating me. Although I must say making a commitment to this program on here really is a brilliant idea! Now you have a larger group of people that are waiting for you and you know you do not want to disappoint. Just don't lie about it ;-) I guess we will see how it goes. Good Luck everyday!
You go girl. Hubby will have to keep a loaded shot gun around. Dudes will be following you home from the store, and leaving notes on your windshield. Keep it up. Not that it's necessary, we've all seen you and you're already hot. (meant that in a non creepy way .. as I watch hubby picking up the shot gun)
Hey mythicalstorm! How's it goin!

Good luck, bootcamp style workouts are tough and do work well. :)
Good for you for getting back to it! wish I could be there to do it with you - it is so much easier to do workout with a group - people right there to push you along and challenge you.
The bootcamp class I'm in includes plyometrics - tough at first and I really hated them but they are good for you. For 2 years now, in March, I've participated in an Am Lung Assn fundraiser in ST. Louis called "master the met" where participants run up 42 flights of stairs. My bootcamp leader was #1 which was cool and our team was #1 team (with some measure of pride, I can say I WASN'T the slowest on our team).
Anyway, my point is that those plyometrics helped me beat my time by a smidgeon in year 2 over year 1. So keep at it, you will improve.
Keep it up, want to read how Day 3 goes!
Sitting in Barbergirl's kitchen...eating a candy bar...washing it down with a chocolate Yoo-hoo...watching her work out...damn...that looks hard...
You got it going on there dear...and those guns? Indeed, next time you go to the courthouse you will need to leave your arms at home....so you can get through the metal detector...
You got me motivated...I am gonna bust out three push-ups...
Good job making it through day 2! I'm excited to see you make it through he whole 90 days. While you might not feel the impact on your body in only two days, I'm sure the 90 days will make a huge difference.
Good luck!
Well I am on my very own health journey - we talked about that so I won't be a bore:) one of Erin's co workers woke me up this morning (duh like I'm gonna get up to work early!) she said Erin has lost a ton of weight......hmmmmmm. Yep I'd still rather do it your way:)!
I've thought about trying P90X myself. I just don't want to buy into a gimmick. I'll be paying attention to these hubs closely. Thankx for trying it out for me BBG. :)
Hi BBG,
Enjoyed reading Day 2 of your journey. But I gotta say, I'm liking that TMJ idea since I've been told I grind my teeth when I sleep. Yep, that's it, just wire it shut!

Well day 2 so you really are serious about this then. I will follow all of your hubs about this journey of getting in shape that you're taking with envy as I myself could not do it. I just hate to exercise ....what can I say.
