Clickity Clack Ads - The Secret to Earning Money with Google Adsense
76
How much money are you making?
Every online writer wants to know the secret to earning money with Google Adsense. The secret however is not so much of a secret. Each and every person lurking around the online world holding a Google Adsense account already knows the key ingredient needed to earning money online.
Obviously, since you are reading this, you are probably wondering what the key ingredient is, especially after looking at your Google Adsense account and realizing there are only a few lonely dollars showing as your accrued income. As an online writer who has also earned a few lonely dollars, I feel I am in a position to tell you what the secret to earning money online is! Yet, I can guarantee once I spill this secret, you will realize you have known it all along!
While every online writer wants their work to be read, the second goal is to probably make money while working on what is probably their current “hobby” job. It is a job they spend spare moments working on, whether it is a few quite seconds before everyone wakes up, that half hour on their lunch break, or when everyone finally goes to bed and the entire house is quite. This is the majority since only a handful are truly successful at making a strong living while writing online.
Disclaimer: Strong living is meant as a person who makes enough money purely off their online earnings to stay above poverty level without any other income coming in. To throw out a random number, I am suggesting a person should be making over $16,000 annually to qualify as making a living off of Google Adsense. Anything less than that is nice, but would make it difficult to keep a roof over your head without having additional income from a significant other or other job source.
Money Money Money
A good explanation of how Google Adsense works
So what is the secret?
Now don’t get me wrong. This is not saying it is impossible to get paid through Google Adsense. There are many people on Hubpages and other writing sites that do. The problem is figuring out those key ingredients that will allow you to finally write full time and be comfortable doing it.
So, without further waiting, I present to you the secret of making money writing online with Google Adsense! The main key is people clicking on your ads. Yep! That is it! That is the way you are going to make money. As an online writer, or someone who is depending on an income coming from Google Adsense, the only way to make money is to have others who happen upon your site and click your ads.
I told you the secret was obvious and you already knew it! But here is the problem. These people must have the desire to click on those ads. You can’t tell them to click on them. That would go against the Google Adsense terms of use. Therefore, to get them to click on the ads, the ads have to be something that is interesting to them. So how do we do that?
Topics
Most people wonder what to write about. Choosing a topic comes easily to some and to others, it can be a bit of a challenge. However, when you are looking to make money on Google Adsense, choosing a topic to write about is important. You have to choose a topic that is going to have attractive ads placed with it.
So what topics will give you the best ads? Think about the ads you normally click on. Are you a health freak? Write about health topics. Therefore readers who visit your hub are more likely to be interested in the ads placed. Are you a parent? Write about changing diapers and taking care of the kids. Maybe a few ads might advertise coupons for diapers, resulting in another click.
Now the list could be endless. Yet, I am not going to give you any more clues. After all, if I give you all of my suggestions what would I have left to write about?
Keyword Research
Anybody who has been around online writing communities for awhile has heard these words several times. In fact, they have probably heard them so many times, just the thought of keyword research sets off their gag reflex. Ok, so maybe it isn’t that bad, but knowing how to find good keywords is key in understanding how Google ranks pages. The higher the page ranking, the more likely your article is going to be found. The more your article is found, the more likely someone is going to click on one of the ads on your page. Result: Money earned.
So now the question is how do you know what words are good and what words are a waste of you time. This is the easy part. Take a word or a phrase you think is a good tag and use the keyword tool in Google Adwords. This is absolutely free, but the value of this service is priceless. You can find the Keyword Tool under the Reporting and Tools tab.
Here you will find the keyword you inserted, or a few variations, the competition for the word, and the number of global and local monthly searches. Now the information is right at your fingertips. What you do with it is completely up to you. My recommendation: the best keywords will be those with a large search rate and a low competition. But nothing says good quality writing won’t come out on top, so don’t be shy about using keywords with a lot of competition. Just remember, the results will vary.

Advertising
If you want to be successful in making money online, the key is advertising. Now I am not suggesting you go out and buy a bulletin board directing people driving by to visit your Hubpages profile (but if anybody has tried that and it worked let me know! I am curious!), but you do have the responsibility of generating a buzz about your work.
There are a few ways you can do this, but what is important is getting those backlinks to your articles. The more outside sources linked to your articles, the higher Google will rank you as a writer and the content you produce. That means you are more likely to be seen, which gives you more opportunities to have someone potentially click on your ads and making you that extra money.
One site I use is Xomba. This is a great site to write up small reviews of your hubs and then backlink to your hubs. You can also write original content here as well. You have the option of posting stories or posting bookmarks. Bonus: Your Google Adsense account can be used here as well. That means you can not only backlink your work, but you can earn additional money when you do it! If you don’t belong to Xomba and you would like to, click here to sign up.
Another good site to use for backlinks is SheToldMe.com. This site is great for posting your work or other great finds on the internet. It is also a revenue sharing website and you can incorporate you Google Adsense account to it as well. This site is quick and easy to use. Other members rate what is posted. Therefore the better the article, the better you will be ranked. If you would like to sign up for SheToldMe click here.
I have also used other sites like StumbleUpon and Reddit. Both have given me minimal traffic. Personally, I don’t use them regularly because I don’t feel like it is worth the time. You can also post links to gain initial traffic by using a Facebook or Myspace account. All these sites have the potential to drive traffic to your hub. There are many other sites out there that do the same, it is just a matter of finding ones and seeing how they personally work for you. Everyone, of course, will have a different experience.
In addition to these outside sources, you can also use links in your very own hubs. You can do this by using the linking tool provided right in your hub capsules tool box. This to is a great way to give extra exposure to your work. Linking hubs to your hubs can be very beneficial. It makes Hubpages an overall complete experience.
While choosing a good topic and doing your keyword research is important in making money online, don’t underestimate the use of links. These links spread throughout the internet is what will help you be found and ultimately rank you higher on Google. Higher ranks means more earnings.
Knowing the secret is only half the battle....
Now that you know the big secret, (even though you have known it all this time) it is important to realize knowing the secret to making money with Google Adsense is the easiest part of making money with Google Adsense. The entire process takes patience, takes dedication and frankly, takes a whole lot of work. Making money with Google Adsense is not a get rich quick scheme. It is legitimate and can be done.
If you are looking for something easy, then this is definitely not for you. But, if you are willing to put in the hard work, dedicate some late nights, do the research and mostly, just write, earning money with Google Adsense can be rewarding… right down to every last penny you have earned.

Confession: I've been a lousy follower for a few days! I MISS MY FRIENDS AND WRITING HUBS! This morning was the Royal Wedding and I even yelled at my bf for calling me during it! LOL! Oh, but I wanted to add to this, that there's tons of other affiliate sites to sign up to that help too! I think I'm signed up to all I can lol. All I can keep up with anyway. But been kinda sickly under the weather too, house is closing this week :) YaY so look now you're score is higher than mine! Well, you do have more followers.. you pied piper you! :)
Okaaaayyyyy - well BBG I'm gonna book mark this and save it for when I can understand it in full! I don't even have an adsense account:) I can't understand how a person could have time to write or even look at any other writers site! How do you do it? Jeeze, I'm a loser! Lol! I'm just taking baby steps but your hubs are a huge help! Will have to check the sites you recommended this weekend.
The keyword thing is important. I write my article and then review to add keywords. As a matter of fact I need to go back and edit some older Hubs.
Thanks for the great suggestions.
Still hanging around and learning.
Keywords - I'll have to look into those too:)!
Terrific ideas and wonderful advice. Rated up and useful.
barber, What do you do when they kick you out and don't listen to what happened. I had a lady get a crush on me, so she clicked on google ads for 20 minutes. I wrote what happened, they said bye-bye. H
Well I wish you could just write a hub guide for new people to follow. I could make a list of questions:) haha!
I'm still watching and learning BBG;)!
Great info and reminders BBG ~ going to watch the videos ~ thanks!
You know - it would probably be really funny:) I'm going to! Just wait! LOL!
barber, I've tried what you said, it didn't work. They ended up ignoring me. H
LOL I'm back, and I'm getting back into things! Yeah I took a day of shopping for things I certainly cannot afford right now, but it was a good boost to make me feel better! Especially when I look over at my new RED (vibrant red too lol) purse and think.. I NEVER WEAR RED??? HUH?? WHAT DID THE ROYAL WEDDING TO DO ME! I'd only went with my little store coupon to get the replica of the royal ring and came home with a new purse and three pairs of new sandals. Um, yeah there's something wrong with that picture. Anyway...
RH?????? Girl!!! OH my Keywords? lol I got flagged for having too many when it still suggested more! ? I don't know! But I just add in what ones I think fit the hub the best!
I agree with BBG, we'll get you the guide to hubberville! You've got superhubber down ok! Why not hubberville.. maybe we should get out own village going too LOL! :) I missed you guys while I was under the weather.. and I mean UNDER tornado's and rain and ugh.. a little shopping sure was painful on my shoulders and neck, and I'm paying for it today.. but I'M BACK and going to help BBG to get you going! (Hi everyone else! :) lol
Hey finally Kat!
Look BBG - the crews all here waiting for further instruction! Seriously - you guys could make a hub that even experienced hubbers can learn from! I am making questions today (next actually) that I seriously needed help with but if not on FAQ - I didn't want to creep people out asking for personal help! It's a delimma and slows my progress. There are a couple of hubs I'm waiting to publish because I am a little limited in my ablilities to use links and etc.,
Kat - I took my girls shopping a couple of days ago - ok I admit I am not a shopper. In fact, I'm a dangerous shopper. I get urges to push people out of my way. But, I had to get something for Syd to wear to Junior Achievement day - her teacher gave community jobs to children based on what she thought they would be in real life - Sydney was appointed CEO:)! Lol! I told you - very serious child! Anyhow - it was fun! She got a cute outfit and no hassle. I just wish you could do my shopping for me! I love Red - now do a hub on howmyour red purse makes you feel sexy! Haha!
BBG - betwixt marathons - Harvey needs your help! Lol! Did you come up for some air Harvey?
Ok I am sending you something! Wow - 98th hub! So awesome! I am working on 30:) LOL! Way cool that you are using your daughers drawing - I will show it to Syd - she will probably want to leave her a comment.
No BBG - I get totally annoyed by the way too sexy outfits for everyday living that are on the market. Come on! How sexy do I need to be to shop for a freaking basket of food? (I don't want to be too sexy for my food!) LOL! It totally would embarrass my kids too - Laurel won't wear anything that shows much skin (thank GOD)! Some of the little girls these days even look provocative - I wonder what the parents are thinking? When I see them - Im thinking - "here's to the future whores of america!"
OMG - did I say that? Well I'm really against it - I think it promotes pedophilia!
Google can be kind of cryptic at times, I will have to revisit and see how to improve. Thanks for the advice.
lol you guys are too much! Oh I'm glad ya like my new hoppin' red purse! Yeah, had to go out today so hehe.. ok, yeah I do love to shop, but I have a hate/love relationship with it I guess. Like the red purse is LIKE TOO young for me, but I have my frumpy old lady fat shorts n' tank top on, and huge red sunglasses that match and since I got two piercings in my left ear and one in my right, I don't match my earrings, but I don't look like the 90 yr old trying to look 20. (cos that's just gross lol) Although my brain tends to think like a 20 year old! But my coolest friends ever are way younger than me, and I think they help keep me young in a mental kinda way! (I can't physically keep up with them though)LOL.. BBG lol Tell yer mom n' law thanks! Glad she likes my stuff.
RH: That is SO CUTE about Syd! I would of LOVED dressing him up! Walking past the kids dept, I seen little boys' suits! I seen a swanky cool deep blue, not navy, but um, hard to describe, darker blue but bright if that makes since,-suit at jcpenny's it would of looked super cool for a little ceo in the making! Shiny shoes n' nice kinda Pierce Bronson type slicked 007 hair! Hey I already got him dressed! lol I think Laurel, GOOD FOR HER, I hate when I see people letting their little girls show too much, I totally agree on promoting the wrong impression, but it teaches the kid to use their body rather than brains to get ahead in life! My dad wouldn't of let me out of the house in what I see some girls wearing nowdays. (of course I did sneak some things under my clothes then shed that at school lol and switch back before time to leave LOL) but, halters and hip huggers were "in" and I could wear hip huggers with a LONG shirt, and the only halter I could wear was one mom made me that had a shawl type thing she sewed in it. With high wasted pants or a skirt.. but in 7-8th grade I was in private school so it was measured 2" above the knee and no short sleeves or HOME we went! lol. At least it taught us morals, then public school was culture shock lol. I think some parents don't realize the impact being overly protective rather than just teaching good morals has. I was reading about "helicopter mom's" and the devastating effects it has on their kids. Watching out for them is one thing but letting them get their own personality is another.
Anyway yer both perfect mommies lol :)
Well, yeah I think the idea for the cool 100th hub is a great idea! You'll think of something cool then promote it everywhere! Even my FB page lol, you're totally welcome! :) And oh, we should twitter them too! I have an account but rarely use it. But I'll do it to help out my followers and friends hubs! In fact, we should do that, then do retweets on each others! lol.
Plus don't forget the new idea for the contest is coming up and I can't wait to see what the theme is, I have some that will be good competition, but knowing the theme is only the beginning of the battle. I can't believe some of the ones that have won have NOTHING hardly up there, like.. um.. well nevermind, but anyway, I think us promoting them elsewhere is good too. You guys know blogger is an affiliate too right? I did one on the Royal Wedding and it got quite a few hits! Ok, I'm going to sit back for a few episodes of my new Dudley Do-Right disc.. lol (yeah shopped at the dvd store today, gotta love a Military town lol) :)
Oh BBG - I think I'll have a bud light lime! Kat - we're drinking - go make a mimosa! Where's Q for this party? Let's celebrate super hero hubber style for BBG's 100th hub!
You can't be too old for a color Kat! Jeeze! You are not too old for a red purse! Haha! Hey you all would love to see some of the crap my mom wears. She's 61 - does kickboxing and spinning classes. I think she could kick my ass. But omg! PETA would stand outside her house if they knew how many dead furry things were in there
Ooooh hey y'all! I watched Zombieland last night! LOL - Dave was rotf! He had not seen it either - I just couldn't believe how hard I was laughing because a woman hit the pavement face first. It seems so wrong but somehow that thought made me laugh harder:)!
To clarify: (as if I have to for certain people) but I realize the Dudley disc most likely came from some kids unwanted dvd collection, my point was when you live anywhere near a Military town there's an over abundance of Pawn Shops, where certain things are bought oversea's, then brought home, then when they get shipped out again, cannot keep everything, thus, ends up in the many pawn shops! Military items include: dvd's, engagement/wedding/promise rings, diamond neckaces/earrings charms, and anything they've bought for a family they had but didn't have family, when they returned. This tid-bit of information was just "corrected" to me that "I" don't actually live IN a Military town. Although I'm surrounded by 4 major bases, my little town is only like 3 blocks, but this person just has to make a point that I don't mislead you into thinking my friggin' cartoon disk wasn't a Military disk! Sheesh, hope this follower is "happy now" ::ROLLS EYES:: lol (yeah I did just ask this person to look up where I am, I am exactly 40 miles between two major AFB bases.) grrr grumble grumble....
LOL Omg, Ok BBG, you'd love my red stuff.. gotta show you two (and your mom-in-law)lol my vlog, anyway I don't know how sales run state to state, but the purse is Liz Claybourne, on sale at jcpenny, the sale for 40% off, and I had a $15. coupon for a points rewards lol, so, the original price was $40. and I got it for $9. some change! (Hey I shop good trust me I'm poor LOL) Then the two pair of shoes I got that are alike were original $50. but on sale for $34.99 BUT there is a $10. coupon in the newspaper thingie everybody passes up on the way in the door LOL, so that's why I got both colors, the brown & black, for $25. each, really meaning it should of been buy one get one free LOL! BUT... since you can't use both coupons on one sale, I did the sales separate! So the solid black ones that were on sale $28. and I used the $10. sale paper coupon, so they were $18. But added altogether it was about an $80. on my card, had I not had anything on sale or coupon, it would have been a $170.ish worth of stuff spend LOL! So, in actuality, I got a good deal because, I used my ccard, they'll send me another $15. off next month. And those I use every 6 or so months that you're supposed to trade out new pillows LOL to go buy the double pk of pillows that are $15.99 and will get them for a dollar on my card. And the whole cycle starts again, I used my card, so they'll send me another "points" $15. card LOL! Last month I got that purple necklace (in that same folder on fb) and the plaid shirt off the clearance rack for $5. and the other black strappy sandals for $34. I think it came to like $5. on my card because they give $15. gift card for my birthday and a $15. for my points card, so I really got the shoes and the sandals for free that day.
Now if I go into Belks, I wear those big buckled shoes lol because the heel is higher, and I hurt my ankle a few years back and it hurts to wear them long (HEELS ARE A GOOD WAY TO GET YOURSELF OUT OF A STORE QUICKER LOL) plus they're more expensive of a store and that card stays maxed lol but I only use it to get whatever deal they have going on. I crack up at the girls on you tube calling their make up buys "hauls" LOL.. Um, they have NO CLUE what a haul is. My stuff blows theirs away. One girl is like "my Clinique haul" I watch it and she'd paid $18. for a lipgloss but got a lipstick, some moisture wear, wrinkle cream, eyeshadow & mascara n' whatever samples they give out! If they got the $25. deal they'd not think two friggin' make up bags and some samples were a "HAUL" I'll have to show you my channel so you can get a laugh out of the "haul" I bring lol! Actually I can consider my "hauls" free cos my ex never paid child support, now my kid is 33 and I'm getting it so I get it gift wrapped, and everything I need or want, plus the extra perfume that's my fave, for free! Apparently it did me well to bring my kid up alone it's finally paying me back from when I really needed help! Ah, kidding :) it worked out, I need the money more now, cos I married someone who helped me raise him, but it's cool, I don't mind getting my "hauls" now!(omg RED FUR COAT, PETA WOULD KILL ME COS OF IT, BUT AS explained, I got it at a a resell shop for $12. and it's like a $600. rabbit & lamb coat DYED RED) LOL Oh you'd like my "black n' red" vlog! There's some way to monetize you tube too but I can't seem to figure it out just yet. My friend was saying something about they have to invite you, but I'm not sure about that because there wouldn't be a link for it if that were true! It is kinda fun watching some of the things people do, my GOD at the fingernails, mine are horrible LOL and they put drops of water in them then swirl it and dip their nail in them, and pull off the extra and it looks marbleized! I totally love watching them, but I dunno, not the patience for it, and I can't get a video to stop in the 10 minute time frame! We should do the twitter thing to promote each other tho.. and blogger! (too bad I didn't have the new red purse with the coat vlog at the time lol) God I'm rambling a book, sorry LOL! TIRED I think! lol
OH yeah were is Q.. I seen him on some other hubs, I think he's cheating on us LOL! Maybe we're boring or made him mad or something!! :( I hope not! I did respond to a math thing the other night, but I dunno, no response.. ::snivel:: I feel rejected!
My bud light is going down pretty good and I'm just coming up with all kinds of hub ideas. Omg! I could get myself into so much trouble right now! I'll send you my latest greatest idea - LOL!
Breakfast of champions!
Bud light - lime:) it's my friend! Lol!
Great Hub with excellent tips. Thanks! Voted up!
Very good hub, well thought through and all true, thanks!
My where is Q post isn't here! I whined and everything that he was ignoring us..er.. well me.. Is my post just lost!
I need in on the hub idea! Or just hurry up with it LOL RH: Oh, ew I can't drink bud light, it had to be FULL budWIzER lol. I loved those lil' frogs! :)
Ok well I'm up very late this morning:) I'm sure you can guess I had a little headache! But that drunk hub idea was so worth it! Lol! I can't believe the crap that goes on up in my head sometimes!
I used to drink Budweizer too Kat - I'd steal anything my parents bought! My dad won a cooler full of liquor in a drawing - I was about 15 - the Major never drank - he also didn't notice I stole those bottles one by one until there was nothing but a bottle of anisette left! It was too disgusting to drink - tastes like black licorice! Eeewwwww!
Ok I just published the drunk inpired hub! Lol!
An insightful and straight forward hub. It's not easy making money though but then again I just started and don't have many hubs. I'm trying to get some traffic through to them though :)
thank you for sharing...now it makes sense to me...

Good hub, and definitely a lot of good ideas. Keyword Tool is half of the selection process. You need to know how many other suites you are up against. Too many, and it may get hard to rank.
Also, the bookmarking sites are great you suggested, but you can also put RSS feeds out for your article as well as write other articles with similar topics and link them all together!
