Jillian Michaels - A Kick In The Flab
77Unless you have just woken up from a very long nap, chances are high that you have heard of Jillian Michaels. She is the very latest trend and inspiration in today’s weight-loss kicks. Michaels is one of the top American trainers due to her successes with “The Biggest Loser” and her fairly new series “Losing it with Jillian.” Yet, today, her name is spread all over the place with her diet plans, workout tips, and healthy lifestyle advice.
She has definitely made a name for herself, which you can clearly see if you walk down any nutrition supplement aisle throughout various stores, browsing through workout DVDs, or even looking at cookbooks in the book store. Her name is plastered on TV, in stores and all over the internet.
Therefore, there is no doubt in my mind, that if you are starting out on a workout adventure, chances are high you will come across Jillian Michaels. Yet, her name can be intimidating. While she does get results, we all know how “evil” she can be when it comes to working out. We have seen her bring people down until they puke, we have seen people cry, and we have heard her yell… and even though we have also seen her supportive and caring side, pushing play on one of her workouts can be, at the very least, intimidating.
While I have done my fair share of a workout programs, the thought of doing one of Jillian Michaels’ video terrorized me. Yet today, as I was looking through some videos on Exercise TV, I saw her video “30 Day Shred.” Why not try it. After all, I was looking for something that would get results and this obviously had results written all over it.
Now just so everyone is clear, I do not own this video. As a customer with AT&T U-verse, they offer certain programs for free On Demand. When you click on the Health and Fitness aspect of the On Demand they offer videos, considered rentals, for a limited amount of time. So, while I have access to this video today, and for a little while longer, I will not have access to it permanently unless I purchase the video.
Just push play...
So, as I stood there looking through the 100 plus exercise videos, Jillian Michaels “30 Day Shred” caught my attention. I have seen it in the stores and have often wondered if it was worth the investment. Yet, I have hesitated buying this (or other) DVDs because my exercise collection has gotten a little out of hand, and a little under used. This was the perfect opportunity.
As I pushed play, I could feel myself getting nervous. Jillian Michaels is known for being tough and no-nonsense! Since I have been away from the exercise scene for awhile, I wasn’t sure if I had the ability to complete one of her videos. Yet, what I did find was inspiration.
Typically when I look for a workout, I want something that will not only give me a great workout with results, but I want a video that is fun and will keep me interested. Most videos that have nothing but push-ups and sit-ups and moves you need dance instructions to complete usually end up boring me back into not working out. Yet, even though “30 Day Shred” had some old school moves, I found that its quick pace and variety kept my mind and my muscles engaged the entire time.
Jillian works her system to give maximum results in minimum time. That being said… there are no breaks and there are no modifications. Each exercise goes into the other and by the time you are finished… you will be sore. Her workout is based on the 3-2-1 method; 3 minutes of strength training, 2 minutes of cardio, and 1 minute of abs. Her workouts target both large and small muscles groups to get the maximum results.
This video lasts less than 30 minutes and is definitely feasible for anybody. If you are new to working out or just returning from a long break, this is a great way to get back into the swing of things. If you are a busy person, this workout will give you results without taking up a lot of time. If you are just a busy person, well then this works perfect since you only need to spare a half an hour.
I definitely give “30 Day Shred” a thumbs up. I have done my fair share of workout videos and I can say I honestly enjoyed this one. Jillian Michaels is an inspiration. So, what are you waiting for? Go change your clothes and get to it. You will be happy you did!

I love Jillian and have two of her books. I have several of her DVDs and still use them.
In 2007, I did her 12 week program in her Winning by losing book, and lost 14 pounds.
It is hardcore and it pushes your body out of the comfort zone. Results will happen and she teaches you how to mAke that mind body connection to make your health goals come true.
Awesome article ! I am inspired all over to get going with her program again!
Thanks so much!
Thank you, finally someone that loves jillian's hardcore style! I agree with you wholeheartedly about her. I so wish I could have her kick my butt like she does on the biggest loser. Her first book is wonderful. I always refer to it and it's made me physically and mentally stronger. You are giving me hub ideas! Lol.
I also subscribe to her emails and I love them. Have you tried her yoga meltdown? I haven't yet. I have her 3o day shred and other DVDs. They are the only workout DVDs I have ever bought ! I love her! Yes, thank you! I am going to get my books, and DVDs ready!
Yes and I do not know what cable provider you may have but I have fios and her yoga meltdown is available for free or at a small cost depending on your plan.
I totally can relate to the space issue so I understand.
Lol @ the box of CDs! But that's ok, you are investing in your health!
Yes, check it out and so glad I could help and thanks again for inspiring me!
I love Jillian Michaels workouts. I really like how she breaks it down into various levels so anyone can follow along. There's always beginners modifications too. Even though most of her workouts are relatively short, they definitely pack a punch and melt that flab away!

Good hub, I agree with you about the 30 Day Shred (though I could hardly move for a couple of days after first doing it lol)
I like to do it once a week or so (mixed with other things), but not every day.
