Stalking in the Hubberhood
72Disclaimer: This hub is not intended in anyway to downplay the seriousness of stalking people in real life., whether it is on or off the internet. Stalking is serious and something that should not be taken lightly. This is intended to be a play on words for humourous reasons. If at anytime, you feel this is too offensive of a subject to you, I highly advice you not continue any further.
Welcome to the Hubberhood!
Stalker: defined as a person who is obsessed with another to the point of near insanity.
“It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood. It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Won’t you be mine? Won’t you be mine? Won’t you be my stalker?”
Okay, so now that I have you thinking of Mr. Rodger’s neighborhood and singing his little tune I have you just were I want you. You are so distracted you won’t even know what you are getting into. Okay, so maybe you do, but I just wanted to sing the song anyway. It was stuck in my head and I was hoping that it would be stuck in someone else’s head so I wasn’t the only person left singing it in the world.
The point of this article really is not in one ounce related to Mr. Rodger’s neighborhood, unless of course you think of him as a creeper. Some people do. In that cause, when you think of a stalker the first thing that comes to mind is a creeper. I however do not associate Mr. Rodger’s as a creeper. I have fond memories of watching him when I was a young child. But, if you do not feel the same way, then we are on the same page.
Being a stalker is a serious thing. If you are doing it on Facebook or doing it in public it can be downright scary. However, turn the tables a little. I want to bring you into my neighborhood. It is a neighborhood full of stalkers… it is the Hubberhood.
These stalkers, however, are not creepy. They are actually very welcome in our neighborhood. In fact, we might even seek them out. These stalkers go by another name. They are followers.
Follower: defined as a person who subscribes to the teachings and methods of others; a servant; a fan; one who tries to imitate or copy another.
When you compare the two, Stalker vs. Follower, the only difference is the insanity part. Now I might be wrong, but aren’t we all a little crazy. After all, we are writers. We like to spin things to give a completely different point of view of what have otherwise been a horribly boring topic. We spend hours upon hours either writing or thinking about what we are writing. As a hubber, we might even spend hours dreaming about Hubpages. That is the insanity part. Therefore, a stalker and a follower is the same thing.
So by now you are probably either angry at me for assuming you are a stalker, or you are nodding your head in agreement, because you really are one. And secretly, at the same time, you are thinking which hubber you have been stalking.
Now I will admit: I am a stalker. There are so many people in the hubberhood that I have met (okay, well maybe not really; several of them are in completely different states!). Though the initial hub is just the starting point, it is the comment section where all of this stalking takes place. We banter back and forth. It might be about what the hub is about; it might even take things in a whole new direction.
The key is, with every comment made back, I smile a little. Maybe it is a creepy smile - kind of like the joker in Batman. Maybe it is just a smile of satisfaction, because there is someone out there who is taking the time to comment back and forth with me. But hey, who doesn’t like a little interaction. The crazy is that I enjoy these back and forth comments. I am pretty sure there are many people out there that agree with me. (Nod head now!)
So now you have realized that if you are active in the Hubberhood, you are also a stalker. The question is, what makes you more intrigued to stalk one person over another?
The simple answer. It is an attraction. It isn’t the type of attraction most people think of when they think of attraction. I am not stalking one person more because I think their avatar is cute. Although I will admit, actually having an avatar is better than not having one at all. I will also admit that I prefer an avatar that is more personal… you know… an actual human face. I can relate more to a human face than a cute bunny. After all, who is to say the cute bunny isn’t just a robot imitating a human. Yet, I am not prejudice. While I do notice the avatar, the avatar has little to do with the attraction.
What drives me crazy is the writing. When I dive into a hub, I want to see the person’s emotions involved. I want it to mean something. I want them to make me laugh; I want them to make me cry! If I learn something in a process that is a definite thumbs up. The topic could be about anything you want, but what matters is if you put your whole heart and soul in it.
The second part that drives the attraction, is the person’s personality. Now think about your favorite hubber in your hubberhood. What draws you to them? Is it their quirky spin on everyday normal topics? Is it their imagination? Is it because they force you to think, giving you new ideas to write about? I know those are the qualities I look for in someone I am stalking. And of course, if they are active in my Hubberhood, that also helps.
So, who are you stalking in your Hubberhood?

Getting followed on the Hub is kinda cool, but getting followed on the street is downright creepy. I'm not sure I stalk anyone on here, but I do have some favorites. ;) And I tend to check their hub sites more than others. I print their avatars off and tape them to my wall. Try to find out where they live and other personal information. But I'm not stalking anyone, I don't think.
Riverside, CA, is a big town. What street do you live on? :)
Mr. Rodgers is alright, but that song sounds like the national anthem for stalkers. Won't you be mine, and all that. Just a tad creepy. Unless it's sung by a guy who never learned how to button up his sweater correctly, of course.
Great hub, thumbs up, and proud to be a follower. ;)
You have just validated my stalking! Haha - GREAT - and I agree - if you are stalking someone in hub ville it's because - yes they are sure to make you LOL or they are just damned interestin!! Know what I mean barbergirl??!! Lol. Plus maybe the stalker likes your style of writing and would learn something. Exactly why I'm stalking you!
I'm trying - BBG - hey I would be very interested to hear about your time spent in the military. I bet you have some great pictures - have you done any yet? I am going to do my next hub tomorrow about zip lining at Selvatica - that was so fun!
Oh you would love it for shizzle:-). Just from a woman's perspective of the military life - or for instance a day in the life - Laurel was seriously considering going into the service - I have several family members who have been in the AF. I begged her not to! Isn't that awful? But she is my baby! And my nephew is in S. Korea now. I'm sure it's not just me who is very curious about this - what about just informing young people who want to enlist what it is like. Fascinating! and so courageous of you! Thank you!
::whew:: I'm so glad to be amidst the normal stalker! I'm really being stalked by someone! In real life! In fact I'm awake all night and while the police believe me nothing can be proven in court! This person is stalking me because I went to COLLEGE! I had witnesses to verified they heard the threats. Now my dog's toe was cut off last Friday night and I found her bleeding. I cannot see out to my road, nor find the severed toe, but it is being amputated the same week I am undergoing eye surgery, and I'm living in total fear. There really are stalkers who just don't let things go.
BBG - you get awesomer and awesomer everyday! Haha! I fall into the somewhat normal section:) I admire anyone who serves our country - and don't depreciate what you have done!! My girl had talked to a recruiter several times - they were doing all their background checks or what ever they do - my nephew had just gotten out of boot camp and I gave him some of my luggage because his C.O. said they needed to try to appear to be civilians when they arrived in Korea - I was freaked out! Thank goodness he has access to facebook and email:-) almost every day I think about it and still worry for him. (he is an M.P. and is doing well btw)! Thank you, for being all that:)
As someone who actually did have a physical stalker once, it is no laughing matter...really creepy.
Excellent, and a funny hub as well. Thank you!
It is funny, but I don't belong to majority. I meant your hub is funny, not "not belonging" part. I neither stalk not being stalked. Substitute with "Follow/being followed" if you wish.
Playing with words is always fun, yet it does not necessarily change the facts. I haven't discovered too many authors to follow and my followers are more of a statistical collection that real readers.
I should call them "My Imaginary Friends". Out of 42 followers that I have at the moment, there is only one who reads my hubs on a regular basis. No, he is not a stalker. I assume that his interest is genuine. And it is priceless.
Besides, stalking... isn't it exhausting?
BBG - I think you have said it perfectly. If we didn't feel some warm fuzzy connection - and enjoy the writings from the hubbers from some other mothers :) we would def not keep using our precious time to watch and learn from the technique that inspires us! I am learning slowly about this hub world - but there are *certain* hubbers that really intrigue me. I'm not here to make money - I want to learn from those I feel I can get the most out of in the little time I can squeeze into spending on myself:-) the ones that make me feel something when I read it - laughter, sadness, some connection.
Thank you! Yes and I also - being new to the forum - find my self wanting to keep reading things from the same writers once they have me hooked:-) I want to dredge through their older stuff - if I were a REAL writer - I would be flattered by that:)
i always stalk women whose pictures look good. can i help it if their style of writing also impresses me.lol
This is so true! I am so glad to find out I'm not the only one that feels this way...I did a hub about stalking myself, just to get answers on it to see if others did the same as me...and it made me feel better to find out they do! I have a few favorites that I always check first, some of the same ones you check I believe! And then if they haven't written anything new I move on and read a few more, or hub hop. It's too much fun to stop!
And we were just talking about Mr. Rodgers yesterday. We used to live in front of a cemetery and my oldest son was young and learning to read. We went for a walk in there one evening and he was sounding out the names on gravestones. There was a tiny private mausoleum (sp?) and he sounded out the name on the top "Rodgers". He said "look Mommy it's Mr. Rodgers house, do you think he'll come out and talk to us?" I just said "Son if he does we're out of here!" haha Good hub!
Very interesting hub. Im sure many are hub stalkers here. I like learning about a wide variety of things. If you add humor though you will be be more closely watched by me. So beware! -takes a shifty look around-
This Hub got you another stalker...wow even in context that really does sound quite creepy.
I have your profile open in another tab and was just about to hit the "friend me on Facebook" link but I can't do it, not after having just described myself as a stalker. Not because it's awkward, I've just already met my irony quota for the day.
Oh right, it's past midnight here. Might as well get a head start on the iron content for my Friday then.
From reading this, and, other hubs you've published, I get the sense that you are a bit of a narcissist. You tend to express a certain amount of arrogance.
Allow me to educate you... Being followed on a blog service is ***not*** the same as being stalked. Personally, I don't find your writing very profound. I think that you have a great deal to learn.
***Your*** opinion (what are you...a hair cutter) means ***nothing*** to me!
Wow, I must be a real B. F. I. Then, because I do find your writings to be profound. I also was a hair cutter - oh wait - I couldn't finish that either! I was awful at it. Creative people seem to have that gift I don't possess.
The comments from above mine are shocking and sad. Really disturbing. Im changing my husbands name!
Ha! I knew you would figure that out! Know how? Youre extremely intelligent! Lol! I hope I didn't offend anyone;-)!
Ha! My David just read your hub - then he listened while I read the "comments" and he was so confused! He couldn't figure out what the other (gulp) David was all hyped up about. He wants me to tell you that guy is a big jerk. Sorry, I am a RealHousewife - and you know I do what my man says!
I do barbergirl - he is one in a zillion. I often read hubs to him and he laughs as much as I do (well I usually only read the funnies to him). I even have read many comments to him - he enjoys it almost as much as I do. Dave was a big reader even as a child - I was actually attracted to him for that:) He knows what he is talking about! He is a really smart guy.
Wow Barbergirl - Dave is a big movie buff! He loves those kind of movies. I got some Netflix movies in the mail a couple days ago, I opened them to see what he chose - Pirannah! Now isn't that like 100 years old?
Can I just say, "Dawn of the Dead.". Cuz I've seen that several times!
Haha! That is sweet! Dave isn't captain romance but he t
Does really sweet things - like mopping the floor or helping with the cleaning. He did two loads of laundry yesterday. So I'll stick with those qualities and be grateful.. Once in a while he does gift me with a box of candy or flowers but usually only if the holiday dictates it:)
I'm going to look for Shaun of the Dead! I'd never even heard of it - I'll probably like it better than Dawn of the Dead!
I wonder if it's an instant movie on Netflix? I'm going to check and I'll let you know my reviiew:)
I thought that too! I figured I might get brownie points and some laughs! If you thought it was funny, you know I will - we are both so profound! lol!
Is it just me, or are the people who tend to call others narcissists and arrogant usually the biggest offenders in this area?
Hi BBG! We've been playing at your house while you were away, you're gonna be busy! Lol!
Hi! Hi! Hi!
BBG that's what you get for leaving us alone at your house! HAHA
Yeah, I know exactly what you mean! I didn't realize before I left that I couldn't fix anything or comment:). So yeah we all partied here - we cleaned up our own mess though!
Ha! Ark does too but my uncle doesn't use computers at all. He refuses. I wish he would though, it would be so neat to be able to email him. He is very resistant to change, he reminds me so much of his dad. I have to call him and hope he's home and I also send him post cards. I've given up trying to get him to believe it is really easy and will improve his life. Such is life!
Thanks BBG - I knew you would miss the party but we are hub heroes after all. We had to keep your comments going - did you see what happened to me? :-0
Well thanks for putting in your time off slip.
ATTN ALL HEROS - BBG will be out - party at her house! I'll bring the keg!
That sounds like fun! We promise not to mess it up too much! Well only invite thousands of people, not everyone!
Wow reading this I couldn't help but to picture you as a kid playing with an anthill and I was one of the ants. Ha ha ha... Your magnifying glass fried the ant next to me more than once and even though I fought it I had to nod my head when you commanded it!
So it seems you are right, that Hubpages legitimizes stalking in a sort of anonymous internet sort of way? :-)
I like your outside-the-box way of thinking AND am glad to see that David99999 guy is no longer active. "But call me follower #543."
That conversation earlier on people that follow just to gain a follower made me wish Hubpages put a "Follower Management Tab!" You could sort by last comment date and trim the dead wood, so that you could keep you followship legitimate! HA! barb, I think that would feed your puppetmaster tendencies. :-)
I have had fun stalking - or should we call it "hubstalking" - others while I've been here. Stalking has such a negative sound to it... or is that why its so much fun? Ha ha...
Never even occured to me to suggest the Follower Management Tab. I will do that and let you know if anything comes of it. :-)
I hope its not in some obvious place but, Where do I make suggestions...
I am not sure why this link was sent to me on my hub which is in violation, but clearly someone is aware to the financial, sexual and demoralizing way I was stalked. This is funny to everyone, and it should be cause if it should ever happen to you expect the very very worst and start there. Do not demoralize me any further by laughing at the situation I lived through and lost a great deal. This as I have trusted every direction from the team has been reported as well as your friend flagging it.
You were? I had no idea. I apologize for the inconsideration. I swear I only used the "stalking" in the context contained in barbergirl28's hiub here. As a loose reference to "FOLLOWING" another hubber.
The only hub of yours I have even read is the poll one that I commented in. I apologize if it seems otherwise. I promise I had no idea you were really stalked. That is a serious thing for sure.
Also it is in violation to link another's hub in a comment? If so I did not know that...
???? It seems obvious by my comment though why I linked this hub in yours you disagree?
I am confused why I should have know the way you were stalked? Either way I am sorry how it may seem but I swear it was an innocent thing.
bbg, thanks for backing me up... that was weird. I just wonder why KL said I knew her situation. I thought I explained the reference but understand that if that REALLY happened to her she might have a negative reaction... Will let you know what happens if it isn't obvious later...
barbergirl28 - Great hub. I enjoyed it and can relate to many of the examples you listed.
As for the comments above - It is my belief that all of this was a misunderstanding which may have been fueled by someone's real life experience (an obviously unfortunate and profound experience). One just never knows whom they might offend and it is clear (to me anyway) that neither of you had this intention. I'm confident that others will see this reasoning as well. Besides - your hub was written far before lapse joined HP and the comments show this history as well. Plus, lapse was simply making a reference which to me seemed relevant.
Keep the faith - you have both done the right thing by apologizing. Hopefully we can all move forward.
Continued best wishes to you and I look forward to reading your continued hubs and comments. :)
barbergirl...
I must say...if not for stalking...I would get no exercise.
So yes...I always had my "unvoiced suspicions" about Mr. Rogers...and his neighborhood...but since the cops never dug up anything in his lawn...I will admit I was wrong.
At this point...I return to the comment box after reading other comments (more recent) and now...typing the words..."Big Pink Elephant" ...where was I? Oh yes..."Big Pink Elephant"
Which, btw...I don't agree with elephants in the circus...(pink or otherwise)...I digress.
Here's the problem...I actually charged 'Lapse' money for charm school lessons (with an--I thought--ironclad no refund policy)...clearly...my good friend (that I call Brian for no actual reason)needs a refresher in the course, I like to call, "Keep your Sandwich Fresh" (that's just a working title though...)
I wouldn't take it down. Your context is very clear.
Thomas
PS...I must say...you come to Nevada...and you stay at the "other" place in Nevada?
When a mere 17 hour (total) extra hours of driving...you could have come to Reno?
I am working on my new "promote Reno" bumper sticker...vis a vie...we are better than Las Vegas...ahem. ahem...
"Less fake Opulence...More Real Decay."
..love your writing as always - it's fresh and exciting and spontaneous and witty and free (as in spirit) and it always puts a smile on my face and gives me a glad heart to be able to read someone as wonderful and special as you - got to admit it - you are just one hot hub woman - lol
lake erie time ontario canada 7:25am watching the sun come up over the lake after night shift
Cyber-Stalking, pimping, Beebs sleeping with a kid ... gotta love hubs and the humor it allows us to exhibit. In reality all three of those offenses are subject to a prison term BUT sometimes you just need to escape reality and laugh. Awesome hub BBG! By the way I used to cut hair also, got grossed out by the customers bad hygiene and quit the salons. Voted across the board!!
Lapse
thank you
I apologize for jumping the gun.
well, for one this is an interesting hub, two, you have an interesting view of our fellow hubbers, three you have a very fertile mind...
well, since you're asking for our opinion, it's really up to you to remove this hub or not...anyway, we always live to the choice we make...
I wouldn't even think of taking this Hub down! I'm not the intellect type, but even I understood your meaning about stalking. I guess I'm a stalker when it comes to HubPages and my followers. Did you ever read my silly little poem I wrote for my fellow Hubbers??
I think it's obvious that Kimberly too had no misstated feelings, and simply expressed very real and painful experiences that anyone here could obviously see a relationship with the subject of stalking discussed here, however lightly or objectively it's been put forth.
Everybody here has the best intentions, but apparently someone linked this discussion to one of her hubs possibly knowing her reaction...who knows.
The fact is, is that Kimberly is a kind, giving, and generous person who deserves much praise, and again, as I'm sure everyone here also deserves as well....No fault...no foul...thank you...
BBG,
First a great and funny read. I would not take it down as one of you fellow stalkers. Having said that, I can understand someone who has been truly stalked taking it the wrong way. Stalking does exist here on HP other than the fun followers. In the forums, when one does not like your stand on issues, they follow you around and make comments every where you leave one. It has happened to me twice and both times HP removed them. Just a typical show of an idiot ruining it for the rest.
Again your article has nothing to make lite of a serious subject but strictly to have a play one words.
@Kimberly - I appreciate you saying that. Glad we can move on. Good luck and Happy Holidays. I'll try to remember to be more clear if I make a comment of that nature again.
@bbnix - "Possibly knowing her reation...Who knows"???? That tells me you either (1) haven't done any background reading on this - especially my response comments on this hub and KL's which I think are short and easy to follow and give very clear leads on how to interpret the context of what I wrote OR (2) you think I'm lying in those response comments when I claim to be ignorant of her situation that she went through something serious. I hope its #1 but that's hard to believe. Please enlighten me about how I should have known what effect my comment would provoke because I'm still in the dark on that. Should I have spent hours reading through her 147 hubs looking for clues? Sorry I didn't have the time. I just looked over her bio and found nothing eluding to anything specific. Please help me out here on why you said that.
@ThoughtSandwiches - Are you inferring my sandwich is foul? Hmm... If so its just interesting you assume that its my fault and not the quality of your instruction. :-P BTW I didn't know we were calling it that... I thought it was a corruption not instruction? Probably due to your ADHD, it was a little hard to follow. And don't worry, I won't ask you to refund anything. I think you need it more than I do.
@BBG - If you get an accolade bump for me reviving this geriatric hub I think you should throw me some props! Lol... Sorry for hijacking the show here. Feel free to deny this if you feel the need...
Barber Girl, this is so clever and cute! And I know you meant stalking in nothing but the very best way! In the way you used the word, it's a compliment and not at all creepy. I enjoyed your humour. Great hub!
barbergirl I saw the title and summary of your hub on myhome page. I must admit I thought I was heading to a bit of 'dirt' reading on hubpages. Not funny what draws mu attention. JK. Well, quite the contrary. This is a heartwarming, heartfelt hub of love.
You must be reading my mail. Addicted? Just a wee bit. I backed off for a time because life called me to full attention. I am back at it though. I did learn something while gone not to take myself so seriously. It will not be the end of my world if my numbers go down a bit or do not rise to that 100. I must say in my heart of hearts I truly did miss the hubs. I did manage a few evenings of reading which was fun to really turn the pages and quit focusing on my next brilliant hub for a change. I can be a self centered lot. I do love it here. God works through others and I have been touched and sparked and moved to keep on my path and calling for being at these pages. Until I landed here I was at a standstill as to my lot in life. I am eternally grateful to God for leading me here. You girl are truly gifted and we are not only fellow hubbers but fellow barbers. U Keep on. Let the light shine barbergirl.
You are terrific. Thanks for warming my heart with a big smile today. Hugs Galore. Love You In Christ Jesus, sister. Amen.
This is really nice post..Thanks
Well only the good hubs get revived. Who knew you were so controversial! Or was it my misuse of it that was controversial? Hmm... I tend to find that where ThoughtSandwiches goes, controversy follows... and by association I am now controversial??? :-D Its his gift to the world.
I KNEW I shouldn't have taken his class!!!
Mt. Dew and string cheese theft????? Those infractions should get you 3 - 5 in the county lock up!
It I better? :-) You're right, you should kick those calories. Very astute of you. You'll find more opportunities to keep me straight I promise you!
Hey you still haven't responded to my superpowers response for you! :-) I am looking forward to that!
I did. :-)
Back at ya barbergirl! Keep shining
so, people were offended by this?
PDXKareokeGuy,
No, technically no one was offended by this. I commented in another hub and referred to "stalking" while referencing this hub to provide the context for my comment.
Well ironically that hub writer had actually been stalked before! Still not clear on where that info is found. I had no idea! And she was either too busy or something to take my reference and go check out the context of the comment. So she went and flagged me and what not.
So yadda yadda yadda she figures out what I mean and we all hug and make up. Good times eh???
HA! Yea that dude I jumped on? He really seemed to just be backing up his friend so I don't hate the guy... But he was still unfair I OBVIOUSLY thought... Oh well. Live and learn.
Stalk me forever? :-) I can think of worse things. HA!
Hmm...seems to me...that 'backing up the friend' is the self-appointed task of that guy...tilting at windmills...peeing on other people's UPS packages...other...just really weird stuff. Wait...no. I was the one peeing on the UPS packages... Should I stalk myself? Probably...
Sadly...the Mountain Dew has to go somewhere...although...I don't believe your neck of the woods is on my route...? I have begun the stalking process....kind of creepy...I'm calling the cops...
Thomas
PS...hope the headache that began your day has moved on to other...well...heads I guess.
This has become a rather entertaining comment thread - lol.
Lapse I was really hoping you meant peeking into the ups boxes, but I stand corrected. I mean you stand ....hmmmm....nevermind. Now every time I think of UPS I'm going to think UPeeS - thanks! LOL
Hmmmm you guys should set up business cards "The Dynamic Duo - Hub Revivalists"
something of that nature - I'm sure your creative minds can think of a better name.
PS - Hi BBG28 :)
Well I would be STANDING to peek ... I mean p... nevermind!
Who me and bbg? Or me and Kimberly? lol...
Next target I wish I had a love sac... OH I mean, "I wish I had a Love Sac!" Freudian slip there... Damn BBG that pic makes me feel inadequate. :-( Its like its being critical of how I read it!
http://barbergirl28.hubpages.com/hub/I-wish-I-had-
Now miss O who was my dynamic partner again???
Just THINK of all the hubs I can drop THAT title on without giving context! Flag City baby!!!
ya, people need to read and not merely skim if they're going to leave inflammatory comments.
well, so very true...
Haha! Funny spin on the word "follower" on HubPages. I liked it better when they were called fans instead of followers. Oh well...I like the real followers...ones like you! :) Up, funny and SHARING.
This is quite an interesting hub. I loved it. Its true, we need views, and we need Comments for our work to take off. You've taken the time to outline a lot of important facts in this HUB. Voted UP!

Smiles and nods all the way around here. Funny stuff.
